WHAT IS REFRACTORY?
They are materials with high thermal, chemical and mechanical resistance, made from minerals with a melting point above 1,800ºC (magnesite, dolomite, alumina). Refractory material is one that retains its strength at high temperatures, Refractory materials must be chemically and physically stable at high temperatures.They need to be resistant to thermal shock, have specific ranges of thermal conductivity and of the coefficient of thermal expansion,
Refractories are materials that, even when exposed to extreme conditions of temperature, corrosion, abrasion and chemical reactions, do not lose their physico-chemical properties, and for this reason, they are essential for the protection of equipment in industries that depend on processes at high temperatures (Above 1200 °), such as steel, cement, glass, non-ferrous, chemical, etc. The refractory market moves about USD$ 25 billion a year around the world.
TYPES OF REFRACTORIES :
Bricks
Bricks are used both in the steel segment (high furnaces, torpedo cars, converters, steel pans, among others) and in the industrial segment, such as cement industry (preheating, cooling and rotary kilns). The process of manufacturing the refractory begins with the dosage and mixing of the various granulometries of raw materials and continues with the conformation, which can be in presses up to 2500 t. The products can also, depending on the application, go through the curing process, where they are placed in burning cars and brought to furnaces with a temperature up to 1700 ºC.
MONOLTHIC
Monolithic products are mainly used to maintain and prolong the quality of refractory bricks.They are masses applied in the own bricks already installed in the equipment, in places where they occur more wear, being its composition depends on the type of application. Its manufacturing process occurs in the same way as the molded ones, but they do not go through the process of press and burning.
SPECIAL PRODUCTS
Each customer demands a different type of refractory, adapted to a specific equipment and process according to the need, being necessary different types of raw materials and productive processes so that they are reached. That is, the manufacture of refractories is totally customized for each client, with high technology and expertise involved.
